Beck, Neil H.:  Neil is my father.  Like his father before him, he was born in the house they grew up in and in time he eventually owned the house.  I was lucky enough to grow up in the same house although it did experience significant changes during my childhood years eventually being sold in 2001.  My father was a 4th generation Aspenite and has many stories from his childhood that we have begun to explore and document for generations to come.

My father is and always has been a “world class” prankster.  If I am only able to tell a fraction of his stories at this time I still consider myself closer to him as well as the generations the proceed him.  The time I am spending researching these stories has become an absolute highlight of my adult life.

Lee, Katie:   Katie Lee has emerged as one of the Southwest’s most outspoken environmental activists. Like David Brower and Ed Abbey, Katie has taken up the torch they left burning when they died to sing, write and lecture about the importance of preserving and restoring wilderness refuges; the lonesome characters the West still breeds; and the histories of ancient races embedded in its sinuous sandstone canyons. Today, her unwavering commitment to her principles and feisty eloquence are primarily directed at draining Powell Reservoir and letting the Colorado River once again run wild.

Ms. Lee lived in the Aspen area in the 1950’s and is counted among Dr. Barnard’s closest friends and “partners in crime” at the time.  She resides in Jerome, Arizona and continues to write and lecture about environmental issues, especially relating to the Colorado Rover.

Stanton, Frank: (March 20, 1908 – December 24, 2006) was an American broadcasting executive who served as the president of CBS between 1946 and 1971 and then vice chairman until 1973. He also served as the chairman of the Rand Corporation from 1961 until 1967.

Along with William S. Paley, Stanton is credited with the significant growth of CBS into a communications powerhouse. He was also known for his keen sense of corporate style. That ranged from the standards he espoused as a broadcasting executive, to the design of everything from the company’s current headquarters (Black Rock) to corporate stationery.

Dr. Stanton served for many years as a Red Cross volunteer, concentrating on public information and fundraising. After retiring from CBS, he was appointed Chairman of the American National Red Cross by United States President Richard M. Nixon in 1973, serving in that capacity until 1979.

Worden, Euclid “Puck”: “Uncle Euc” was my mom’s older brother and the first member of the Worden family to move to Aspen.  Euclid came to Aspen sometime between his High School Graduation and the beginning of college at the Colorado School of Mines.  He had decided to take a year or two off and be a ski bum.  Not long after his arrival his mom, Elizabeth “Granny” Worden asked him to find a house for her and my mom to live in.  She ended buying a house on the top of Red Mountain, sight-unseen from DRC Brown.  It was a house he had built for his wife, Ruth but she did not want to live in it, “That far out of town.”  My mother and grandmother lived in the valley for the rest of their lives while Euclid moved on eventually helping with building of the Anglo-French Euro-Tunnel (Chunnel) and other notable geological engineering projects around the world.

He had the nickname of “Puck” but I am not sure of its origin.
